German Retailer Cuts EV Charging Costs by 70% Using SolarEdge’s New Solar-Powered EV Charging Solution for Businesses

The new end-to-end solution includes a new EV charger, powered and optimized with advanced EV fleet management capabilities following the acquisition of Wevo Energy

Regensburg, Germany – 2025SolarEdge, a global leader in smart energy technology, today announces the success of one of its first integrated commercial EV charging and solar installation following the recent launch of its solar-powered EV charging solution for businesses. Leveraging SolarEdge’s new EV charger and EV fleet management capabilities following the acquisition of Wevo Energy last year, German retailer BV-comOffice GmbH has been able to reduce its EV fleet charging costs by approx. 70%.

Headquartered in Regensburg, BV-ComOffice GmbH is a leading German retailer specializing in the installation and maintenance of office and media technology equipment. To help meet its ESG targets, the company invested in a 100kWp rooftop solar system powered by SolarEdge inverters and Power Optimizers, a 40.5 kWh battery, as well as a fleet of 12 SolarEdge EV chargers. As the brains of the operation, the SolarEdge ONE for C&I energy management software also enables BV-comOffice to prioritize solar energy use according to its different energy needs for maximum energy bill savings.

For example, BV-comOffice has the software set to prioritize the building’s energy needs first with the solar energy it produces. Excess solar energy is then stored in the battery for later use in the evening when grid electricity tariffs are at their highest. The second priority is to power BV-comOffice’s fleet of EVs with solar. With employee charging needs varying, SolarEdge’s tiered charging modes allows priority users – such as sales reps who need their car throughout the day – to access grid power if needed. Other non-priority vehicles are set to charge only when solar is available. Employees can also choose to boost their EV charging using grid power via a mobile app, paying for electricity as they would at a public station.

Christoph Vogl, CEO of BV-comOffice GmbH, comments: “With more employees using electric vehicles, why wouldn’t we leverage our excess solar energy to charge them. This solution seemed like a logical step, ensuring our building’s energy needs remain a priority, while allowing efficient use of excess production. SolarEdge’s software upgrade has fully automated the distribution of solar energy to our building, battery and EV chargers – reducing our EV charging costs by 70%. The personalized EV charging capabilities with solar are also impressive and help ensure smooth operations for our team.”

The new EV charging solution for businesses combines customer-specific EV charging schedules and solar generation patterns with real-time grid electricity prices to autonomously calculate the most economical energy source to charge a fleet of EVs – whether that’s with solar, battery or grid. Leveraging SolarEdge’s C&I Inverter’s ability to provide up to 175% oversizing, excess solar can be redirected to power EV fleets. By dynamically boosting or throttling EV charging based on real-time energy loads, the new solution is also designed to allow scaling up to 20x more chargers on existing infrastructure, while ensuring the building’s energy load is not exceeded.

Naama Ohana, Chief Commercial & Industrial Division, SolarEdge, adds: “The acquisition of Wevo has enabled us to unlock more value from solar power, and vice-versa, to improve the long-term economics of EV charging. With the SolarEdge ONE for C&I software solution, commercial businesses can confidently embrace EVs, knowing their energy consumption is being autonomously optimized for maximum energy bill savings.”

Global rollout of SolarEdge’s new EV charging solution for commercial and industrial customers began in May 2025, continuing throughout 2025.
