SolarEdge Announces Full Availability of its Three-Phase Home Backup Interface in Sweden, Providing More Homeowners With Full Back-up Capabilities

  • Now available to installers throughout Sweden, the backup interface combines with SolarEdge’s Home Hub three-phase inverter and Home Battery 48V to deliver homeowners full home backup in the event of a grid interruption

  • Roll-out follows success of soft-launch in 2022 and meets growing demand from Swedish homeowners for self-consumption and grid independence

  • Three-phase system requires minimal intervention in the electrical distribution system, cutting installation time and costs, while commissioning can be carried out from a smartphone, for further time savings

Västerås, Sweden (2 October 2023)SolarEdge Technologies, a global leader in smart energy, today announced full availability of its three-phase backup interface in Sweden. Combined with the SolarEdge Home Hub three-phase inverter and SolarEdge Home Battery 48V, the backup interface enables full home backup during grid interruptions, meeting a growing demand from Swedish homeowners for self-consumption and grid independence.

Going beyond the partial backup capabilities offered by other inverter systems, SolarEdge's full backup solution is designed to power more appliances in the home for longer, both on- or off-grid*. The SolarEdge Home Hub inverter and Backup Interface provides backup power of up to 10kW during the day with a battery capacity of up to 23 kWh. The DC-coupled battery architecture eliminates the ‘triple-conversion penalty’, with two fewer power conversions required than AC-coupled alternatives, for industry-leading round-trip efficiency of 94.5%. To yield more energy and increase self-consumption, the Home Hub Inverter also enables up to 200% DC oversizing.

The three-phase full backup solution is also ‘black start capable’, meaning that for homeowners the PV system can start automatically without manual intervention after the battery has been drained during a blackout. For example, overnight, the battery discharges from stored solar power and then recharges again during the day via the PV system. For installers, having three-phase full home backup power requires minimal intervention in the electrical distribution system, saving time and costs during installation. Unlike other inverter solutions which may provide partial-backup and require extensive rewiring within the home, the SolarEdge backup solution also has built-in connection with SolarEdge Home Network for a simple installation and commissioning process directly from a smartphone.

Daniel Sjödin, Sweden Country Manager, SolarEdge, comments: "In Sweden, we continue to see demand for residential battery storage as more homeowners shift to self-consumption, driven by high electricity prices and concerns around energy security. The SolarEdge Home Backup Interface meets this need by enabling homeowners to back up more appliances in the home for longer. The full backup solution is available today to installers nationwide, with our supply chain in Europe now operating at full speed.

“At the same time, SolarEdge remains committed to improving installers’ profitability by continually evolving and expanding our residential energy management ecosystem.  This ensures installers can continue to meet their customers’ rapidly evolving energy needs with a growing range of hardware and software solutions which are designed to be quick and cost-effective to install and commission.”

The full backup solution is part of SolarEdge’s residential energy ecosystem, SolarEdge Home, which seamlessly integrates DC-optimized PV generation, battery storage and smart energy devices such as EV chargers and heat pumps, for maximum energy savings. Basing load and scheduling decisions on energy use patterns and homeowner preferences, the SolarEdge Home ONE energy management software enables homeowners to control, plan and track their energy consumption all from an app. This also includes taking into account dynamic electricity tariffs for optimal Time-of-Use savings.
