SolarEdge Launches Smart Home Energy Management Ecosystem to Help Swedish Homeowners Lower their Electricity Bills Using Clean and Sustainable Solar Energy

  • Swedish solar incentive scheme a homeowners to receive tax relief equivalent to up to 50% of the total system cost when installed with a battery

4th October 2022 – SolarEdge Technologies today announces the launch in Sweden of a residential smart energy management ecosystem, engineered to reduce energy costs for homeowners while also meeting growing demand for energy independence. Under Sweden’s current solar incentive scheme, Gröna Avdraget, consumers can claim tax relief equivalent to 15% of the cost of the system, increasing to 50% when a battery is included in the package (up to 50,000 SEK) 1 . Crucially, this will enable even more households to realise the benefits of clean, renewable solar energy, while also providing a safeguard against energy price increases.

SolarEdge Home is a complete end-to-end solution that is designed to dynamically manage and optimize solar energy production, consumption and backup storage, enabling homeowners to power their entire home using clean, renewable solar energy – day and night. Controlled by the SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter, the system synchronizes the energy needs of all connected devices and appliances, including the SolarEdge Home Battery and Backup Interface, and smart energy devices such as the SolarEdge EV Charger, Hot Water Controller, Load Controllers and Smart Switches. Charging and storage decisions are based on homeowners’ preferences to drive maximum savings and to reduce carbon emissions.

“After two decades of stable energy prices in Sweden, the recent price increases are hitting homeowners extremely hard. As a result, we are witnessing unprecedented demand for reliable home PV and storage solutions,” says Daniel Sjödin, Country Manager of SolarEdge Sweden. “We are proud to introduce a advanced solution for solar cell and storage energy management to the Swedish market. This is a system at the forefront of smart energy management. It will now be easier for homeowners to control their energy production and consumption and lower energy costs."

Unlike most smart home energy management systems which use grid energy and are only capable of controlling low-energy loads such as lights and cameras, SolarEdge Home harnesses the power of solar energy to wirelessly control energy-intensive loads such as EV charging and washing machines – enabling consumers to reduce both their carbon footprint and energy bills, potentially significantly. Controlled by the mySolarEdge easy-to-use and intuitive mobile App, users can view real-time data on energy use patterns, energy savings and carbon emission reductions in real time - empowering them to make smart choices regarding their home energy use.

“Increasing electrification of the home, including the move to ground source heat pumps and the increasing adoption of EVs, are just some of the factors that are expected to increase energy use in Swedish homes by the end of this decade. This means that finding ways to use energy more efficiently will become even more critical. The launch of SolarEdge Home, combined with the government subsidies available, means that it has never been more beneficial to invest in solar energy," concludes Sjödin.

Available for three-phase solar PV systems, key components of the SolarEdge Home ecosystem include:

  • SolarEdge Backup Interface - The backup Interface connects to the SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter and SolarEdge Home Battery, automatically controlling disconnection of the house from the grid during power failures to provide backup power to full or partial home loads.
  • SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter - Combines SolarEdge’s award-winning and most efficient inverter technology, with the intelligence, scalability and advanced safety features essential to manage the growing demands of energy-hungry homes.
  • SolarEdge Home Battery – highly-efficient design means more of the solar power produced is used to keep appliances, including larger loads such as washing machines and EV chargers, running for longer, and provides flexible backup power in the event of grid interruption.
  • SolarEdge EV Charger – facilitates the use of excess or stored PV for EV charging – letting homeowners fuel their vehicle with green energy, rather than with traditional electricity powered by fossil fuels.
  • Smart Energy Devices – Units to be able to manage a smart energy home system and  includes switches, sockets and dry contacts, manageable through one and the same app.
  • SolarEdge Hot Water Controller – A wireless controller which automatically diverts excess solar PV energy to provide hot water, offering a cost-effective energy storage solution.
  • SolarEdge Home Network - A wireless mesh network that easily connects and communicates with all SolarEdge Home devices.
mySolarEdge – The backbone of SolarEdge Home, monitors solar energy production and makes smart decisions on where and how the energy is used.
