SolarEdge Launches Three-Phase Full Home Backup in Germany, Delivering Homeowners Industry-Leading Power Efficiency

  • Available today, the new backup interface combines with SolarEdge’s Home Hub three-phase inverter and Home Battery 48V to deliver homeowners full home backup with industry-leading power efficiency in the event of a grid interruption

  • The launch meets a growing demand from German homeowners for self-consumption and grid independence, as recently reported by SolarEdge on the back of battery growth

MUNICH, Germany, September 25 – SolarEdge Technologies, a global leader in smart energy, today announced the launch of the first three-phase backup interface in Germany. Combined with the SolarEdge Home Hub three-phase inverter and SolarEdge Home Battery 48V, the new backup interface enables full home backup during grid interruptions, meeting a growing demand from German homeowners for self-consumption and grid independence.

Going beyond the backup capabilities of single-phase systems, SolarEdge's new three-phase backup solution powers more appliances in the home for longer, on or off grid*. The SolarEdge Home Hub inverter and Backup Interface provides backup power of up to 10kW with a battery capacity of up to 23 kWh. The DC-Coupled battery architecture eliminates the ‘triple-conversion penalty’, with two less power conversions required than AC-coupled alternatives, for industry-leading round-trip efficiency of 94.5%. To yield more energy and increase self-consumption, the Home Hub Inverter also enables up to 200% DC oversizing.

The new three-phase full backup solution is also ‘black start capable’, meaning that for homeowners the PV system can start automatically without manual intervention after the battery has been drained during a blackout. For example, overnight, the battery discharges from stored solar power then it can recharge again during the day via the PV system. For installers, having three-phase full home backup power requires minimal intervention in the electrical distribution system, saving time and costs during installation. Unlike other inverter solutions which typically provide partial-backup and require extensive rewiring within the home, the new full backup solution also has built-in connection with SolarEdge Home Network for a simple installation and commissioning process directly from a smartphone.

Alfred Karlstetter, General Manager Europe at SolarEdge, comments: "In Germany, we continue to see unprecedented demand for residential battery storage as more homeowners shift to self-consumption, driven by high electricity prices and concerns around energy security. The new SolarEdge Home Backup Interface is the last missing piece of the puzzle for full home three-phase backup in Germany, providing homeowners the ability to backup more appliances in the home for longer. The new full backup solution is available today to installers nationwide, with our supply chain in Europe now operating at full speed.”

The new full backup solution is part of SolarEdge’s home energy ecosystem, SolarEdge Home, which seamlessly integrates DC-optimized PV generation, battery storage and smart

energy devices such as EV chargers and heat pumps, for maximum energy savings. Basing load and scheduling decisions on energy use patterns and homeowner preferences, SolarEdge’s recently launched “SolarEdge ONE” energy management software enables homeowners to control, plan and track their energy consumption all from an app. This also includes taking into account dynamic electricity tariffs for optimal Time-of-Use savings.

* Storage, backup and EV charging applications are subject to local regulations and require connection with additional hardware.
